Free Entertainment in Philadelphia
If you are traveling on a budget, you can find no shortage of things to do in the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia is packed with activities for both children and adults that do not cost a penny. Many of these offerings you cannot not find elsewhere in the country.
A good start is a visit to Independence National Park, which is a must for anyone visiting the city. This is the historical centerpiece of this great city, and from there you can see all of the other areas to explore throughout the city. Jet across the street to Liberty Bell Center or head only a few short blocks for a stroll down Elfreth’s Alley, which is America’s oldest residential street, dating back to 1702.
The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania offer stunning exhibits and admission is on a donation basis. The independent weekly City Paper also has a vast array of listings of gallery openings throughout the city in a multitude of disciplines. From spoken word to fine art and rich textiles, the arts community in Philadelphia is as rich as it is diverse.
If you are looking for a place to really see some living American history or want to delve into a fabulous art scene, Philiadelphia is a great place to visit.
